Valley Pets Excels

Here we begin our Colorado Springs tour featuring all but one of the five stores they have. Tropical Treasures was closed once again when they should have been open, 12:30 on a Friday. If you’d like to know more about their LFS, just look back at my previous blogs.

Valley Pets at 6380 US-85, Fountain, CO 80817 remains a good option for freshwater aquaria in the Colorado Springs area. While they may not be in the Springs they are close enough to make the trip well worth the drive. In the past I have rated them as one of the best LFS in southern Colorado and they are still an excellent LFS. In fact, on this visit all the tanks were stocked, clean, and well taken care of. The store is looking as good as I have seen it. My only issue with this LFS is the variety of fish they offer being heavily slanted to the cichlid realm. It is clear they feature fish which breed well and which they can produce themselves. The section with Tetras and other tropicals is quite small considering they have close to 100 tanks. If you are looking for rare or unusual fish this is not the place to go. Oh, they do have some rainbowfish and gourami and such, but overall the selection seems small considering how big the place is. If it is supplies you seek, then they have tons to choose from. Also, they offer both used and new aquariums. I’ve seen Koi here in the past, not this year. Now if you are looking for Cichlids either African or South American they will probably have what you need, even though there’s nothing very rare.

An area where they do excel is in plants and supplies for your planted tank. While they don’t have a wide selection of hardscape they do have some and they have more than any other LFS south of the Denver Metro. The other thing they offer which few others do is feeder fish. I have mentioned in the past they have dogs, reptiles, and arachnids as well. This area looks nicer than I remember it. The four terrariums in the photos below are especially nice. I did not go looking for birds, but I did see supplies for them. All in all, this is an excellent pet store and a LFS to boot. So if you are in the area, give them a look-see.
