J & M Aquatics Does It Right

The first LFS I visited on my recent trip to the western slope is J & M Aquatics and Pet Center. Grand Junction has two LFS and in my last blog on this store (linked below) I commented on how disappointed I was with this store. This trip is just the opposite. The tanks are clean and well kept, the fish are healthy from what I observed and the product selection excellent. Though they were almost out of aquarium salt. The prices remain very competitive considering all their fish has to be shipped in by truck. There are no flights near them which bring in live fish. I’m not sure the details of how they get the fish to the store, I just know it really impressed me.

This LFS is more than just a fish store, they have tons of dog and cat products, plus they have reptiles, amphibians and birds, sorta like Valley Pets in Fountain. The real star here is the aquatics section like it says in the name. Half the store is dedicated to aquatics, which I really love. The selection of aquariums is very nice with both high end and entry level tanks. Please see my pictures below to get an idea of what they offer. Hearkening back to my trip last year (I only do these long trips once per year), I am just so impressed with the staff and the atmosphere this time around. Someone has been working hard! The layout is not really different, just the wall of product up front and the fact the shelves are well stocked. It is clean too, which helps tremendously. The other nice thing is they have a cat which roams to store. She is so friendly and easy going. A pleasure indeed. The community of Grand Junction is fortunate to have such a nice pet store specializing in aquatics and I recommend J & M Aquatics and Pet Center wholeheartedly.
